Compared to conventional HPLC columns, Nano-HPLC uses columns with a very small inner diameter. Amongst others, columns with 75µm, 100µm or 150µm are used as standard. Reducing the internal diameter means that the injection and flow rates must also be reduced. This is particularly advantageous when only small or diluted sample quantities are available. The smaller size of the Nano-HPLC leads to increased sensitivity with lower solvent use. Nano-columns have the ability to maintain high sample concentration and to direct about 40-50% of the sample to the detector. The separation efficiency of Nano-HPLC is comparatively high compared to traditional HPLC technology.
