Magnetic Stirrers & Stirring Bars
Magnetic Stirring Bars
The magnetic stirring bar is an important part of the magnetic stirrer. In order to move liquid, there have to be two magnets working together: One beneath the top plate of the magnetic stirrer, and another one – the magnetic stirring bar – inside the liquid to stir. In order to be chemically inert, the magnetic stirring bar is sheathed in synthetic or glass. The magnet beneath the top plate effects on the magnetic stirring bar inside the liquid which is stirred through the reaction of the two magnets. The top plate of the magnetic stirrers mostly also has a heating function. The movements of the stirring liquid depend on the magnetic stirring bar’s form. There are, for instance, crescent-shaped, anchor-shaped and propeller-shaped magnetic stirring bars. Yet, we also offer turbine stirrers.
