Laminin is one of the main components of the basement membrane, which forms a stabilizing layer for
most epithelial and endothelial cells in vivo. It consists of three subunits linked by disulfide bridges and non-covalent bonds. Laminin has multiple binding domains for other proteins of the extracellular matrix as well as for cellular integrin receptors.
In vitro, laminin is used to promote adhesion of various cell types, for the differentiation of
epithelial cells, neuronal (stem) cells, and for chemotaxis studies .
