Vials
In chromatography, a wide variety of glass or plastic sample vials are used for analytical purposes. Since these are usually used in autosamplers or other automatic instruments, strict adherence to all dimensions is crucial for trouble-free operation in the instrument. In addition, the bottles must also meet requirements for inertness and purity. Here you will find GC and HPLC vials with flat, round and conical bottle bases as well as with different bottle necks, such as bottles with headspace rim and DIN rolled rim, threaded bottles, short threaded bottles and some more.

Different types of vials
The handling of the processed samples also belongs to the sample preparation. For this purpose, the samples are transferred into suitable sample bottles with closure, from which the sample is directly applied and subsequently injected for analysis. After sample processing, the sample solution is transferred into a suitable sample vessel and sealed to prevent evaporation of the sample until the injection time. For an optimal analysis, it is also necessary to take into account the quality of the sample bottles and septa of the closures.

Polypropylene vials and fluorine-free caps for PFAS analysis
The analysis of PFAS, for example in drinking water, is becoming increasingly important. When performing the analysis, the choice of the right vials and closures is crucial. Sample bottles made of PP are ideally suited for the analysis of PFAS. The adsorption effects are low with plastic bottles and the signal strengths of the analytes are high. Polypropylene bottles are therefore better suited for PFAS analysis than glass bottles or silanized glass bottles. Possible contamination by the plastic of the bottles or the septa material can be neglected: Even with PFBA, the detection rate is below 1 %.

In order to optimally dissolve both short- and long-chain PFAS in the vessels, the sample solution should have a relative proportion of methanol of 40 - 60 %. Also, for reliable PFAS analysis fluorine-free septa are required to prevent any migration of fluorine into the sample. Suitable caps are e. g. fluorine-free N 9 screw caps or N 11 snap ring caps.
Base Bonded bottles with integrated micro insert from Altmann Analytik
The bottles with integrated micro-insert (glass-in-glass) are used as modern sample vessels in the field of microsampling. Versions with narrow or wide micro-inserts are available.
Altmann Analytik's ""Base Bonded"" microvials are a cost-effective alternative to the glass-in-glass "Top Bonded" microvials (with insert fused into the top), the Thermo Scientific SureStar vials and the so-called "TopSert" vials.
