Tryptone soy agar - ICR in 90 mm sedimentation plates was developed for the enumeration of total aerobic microorganisms in the air through active or passive air monitoring, as well as for fingerprinting personnel in isolators and clean rooms. The medium supports the growth of undemanding and moderately demanding microorganisms. The soy casein peptone medium formulation contains a combination of casein and soy peptones, providing organic nitrogen, particularly amino acids and longer-chain peptides. Osmotic balance is maintained by sodium chloride, and the medium also contains pyruvate to adequately inactivate any hydrogen peroxide residues remaining from the decontamination of the isolators.
