The cyano-based 1301 columns are general purpose GC columns well suited for the analysis of solvents over a wide range of volatility. The cyano stationary phase provides better retention of polar compounds than a Type 5 column; however, cyano-based stationary phases tend to have high column bleed and are not very robust, which limits their usefulness.
