Viva columns are based on a large-pore material that we developed for optimal separation of large molecules. In developing Viva Silica, we found that while many commercially available large-pored silicas meet the usual mean pore size of 300 Å, they usually have a very broad distribution around this mean value, with a significant fraction of pores falling below 150 Å. This means that a large portion of the surface is inaccessible to larger molecules. In contrast, Viva columns have a narrow distribution around the mean pore size, making a larger fraction of the silica surface available for separation.
Base-deactivated, wide-pore packing exhibits excellent peak shape for a wide range of compounds. Lower retention in reversed-phase assays than Viva C18 or Viva C8.
Stationary phase category: C4, butylsilane (L26)
Note: We strongly recommend that you only order a semi-preparative or preparative column once you have evaluated the desired separation on an equivalent column on an analytical scale.
Because we cannot reuse a column or the silica within it once it leaves our facility, we cannot accept returns of large columns.
